Located in the MetroWest area, the town is about 20 miles west of Boston and 28 miles east of Worcester. Many people choose Wayland real estate for its convenient distance from the larger cities and easy commuting. It’s also easy to get into the city for a play or concert, a lecture, or to visit one of the museums. While the commuting is easy, the business community in neighboring towns is also quite active. Though the town is close to lots of shopping and dining in nearby towns, Wayland homes are situated in a very rural, quiet area, which makes it highly desirable. The houses in the town are meticulously cared for. Many have been upgraded with tile and wood flooring, a chef’s kitchen, and stone countertops. You can find both detached single family houses and convenient condos. Many houses were built in a traditional Colonial style and border conservation areas, adding to their feeling of peace and privacy. Condos typically have community amenities like a swimming pool and tennis courts. Though most houses have been fully upgraded, it’s possible to find a house in need of some renovation priced well below the area’s median.
Families with children interested in Wayland will appreciate the town’s public schools. These are some of the best in the state, giving students an excellent education from kindergarten through 12th grade. The vast majority of students go on to pursue higher education. Education has always been important in Wayland, as evidenced by the Wayland Free Library, which was founded shortly after the town was established. It offers residents an amazing collection of books, events for all ages, and many excellent e-resources.
Wayland offers residents many ways to enjoy the outdoors. In the summer, Wayland Town Beach, on the shore of Lake Cochituate, is open for everyone to enjoy grilling out, swimming, and boating. The town also maintains a great system of parks, with fields for playing soccer, baseball, and softball, as well as courts for basketball and tennis. There are also playgrounds and space for grilling. Mill Pond has ice skating in winter. Those who want to will find plenty of space on the town’s trails and conservation areas.
